Despite the tragedy that villagers of Little Kibungan suffered from the wrath of Typhoon Pepeng, they gladly celebrated Christmas today and are welcoming the New Year with new hope.
Municipal officials led by Mayor Artemio Galwan attended the simple Christmas program, which is usually held every year, and gave some encouraging speech to the traumatized but still strong community.
On the night of October 8, 2009, while residents slept, a huge landslide washed away about 30 houses and killed more than 80 people.
Many of the residents whose houses were totally washed out are still staying at the “tent city” which is located at the grounds of Benguet State University (BSU). The relocation site for the severely affected families is yet to be determined by the Municipal Government of La Trinidad, Benguet.
Residents whose houses are still intact have been slowly returning back to the village since November.
